In Crisis? – Call 988 Now

If you are thinking about suicide, self-harm, or are in a life-threatening mental health crisis, call 988 or your local emergency services immediately. Help is available right now. Trained responders can get you to safety and connect you with the urgent care you need. You are not alone.

Overwhelmed? – Find a Helpline

Find a professional, local helpline near you. These services are confidential, compassionate, and available 24/7 to provide crisis support, address mental health concerns, or assist with difficult situations involving others.

Use of Crisis Lines

Please reach out only if you—or someone you know—truly needs mental health support. Every message and call matters, and each one ensures someone in real distress gets the help they need. False or non-crisis contacts take precious time away from people who are struggling. By using crisis lines responsibly, you help keep them open and safe for those who need them most. Thank you for helping us support our community.

Need to Talk? – There are options

Sometimes, we all just need someone to talk to. If you are already connected with a counsellor or therapist, they are your first avenue. We are not here to replace them. We are not a crisis response. If you are looking for support, guidance, or simply someone who listens, we can help connect you to the right person in your area. If, having exhausted all efforts with available supports, please fill out our Contact Form and we will respond to you.

If you are not already in the care of a registered health/ mental healthcare professional/ agency, you can submit a request for a HUG counselor to reply to you but do bear in mind that we are not an immediate crisis response – there are crisis lines available to you so please do not contact us if you are in an emergency situation. When do I call a crisis line?

Crisis Lines: When to Call

Call a crisis line if:

  • You feel unsafe or at risk of harming yourself or others
  • You are in extreme emotional distress you cannot manage

Do NOT call if:

  • You’re stressed, anxious, or sad but safe
  • You want routine emotional support

Try instead:

  • Talk to a therapist or counselor
  • Reach out to peer support or helplines
  • Connect with friends, family, or support groups

Tip: Keep a personal support plan for both everyday challenges and emergencies.
