What do we mean by ‘body image?’

Overview: It’s all about how we see ourselves and how we think other people see us. Self-esteem and body image go hand in hand… if we have a high level of self-esteem it is very likely that we will have a very positive perception of how people regard us… whereas if we have a low self-esteem it is a lot more likely that we will have a negative perception of how people see us. We can then be very critical of ourselves… thinking “my nose is too big… or I’m fat… or I’m ugly…” and possibly all those thoughts and more besides. Having a positive body image is important in maintaining our mental, physical and emotional well-being.
