Investigación & Proyectos especiales
YLC collaborates in research projects wherever it makes sense for us to be involved. We have participated in many Think Tanks and continue to nurture our connections with all engaged in the Research field.
World Health Organization
A million people die by suicide every year – that’s one person every 40 seconds. Yet these deaths are preventable.
In WHO’s first suicide report “Preventing suicide: a global imperative” information is included on what is known about suicide across the world, groups at particular risk of suicide, and what can be done at both societal and individual level to reduce the number of deaths from suicide.
PREVNet is an umbrella network of 68 leading Canadian research scientists, more than 100 graduate students and 54 youth-serving organizations, including YLC. Launched in 2006 with the Networks of Centres of Excellence, PREVNet’s mission is to stop bullying in Canada and to promote safe and healthy relationships for all children and youth. Led by Scientific Co-directors Dr. Debra Peplar of York University and Dr. Wendy Craig of Queen’s University, this national network is the first of its kind in Canada, providing an unprecedented national opportunity for socio-cultural change.
The PREVNet website is a wealth of resources for kids, teens. parents, educators and other adults.

Your Life Counts is committed to supporting and collaborating with PREVNet and our partners in contributing to the efforts of research and the development and delivery of practical resources that will help us all create a world without bullying.
Neilsen (formerly Harris Decima) is one of the world’s leading research companies. Under the leadership of YLC International Advisory Board member, Tara McCarthy, Harris Decima very kindly agreed to conduct a survey of Canadians to measure their understanding and their attitude towards the serious problem of youth suicide.
This important contribution via Harris Decima was referred to widely in considerations that led to the enactment of Bill c300 – ‘an Act respecting the establishment of a national framework for suicide prevention’ (in Canada). These considerations ranged from Parliamentary Hearings to media coverages to debate in Parliament.
The Poll is properly referred to as the Your Life Counts Harris Decima Poll. Our grateful thanks to Harris Decima and to Tara McCarthy for their superb contribution to help save precious lives from suicide.
